The Truth About IM

She is the single overall head of the World Government and the Marines in all 170 countries in the One Piece Universe and occupies the Empty Throne. She operates out of the Pangaea Castle in Mary Gorosei where the Five Elders, the world nobles and the world government's commander in chief, Kong, live. Where she actually lives, is unknown. She exists in the shadows, only a handful of the people know of his existence - The Gorosei (aka the Five Elders). They answer to him, and the rest of the world answers to them. Or so they believe. As for who she is, I read a very interesting and detailed theory about how she's not from this planet.

Concurrent to that belief, my theory goes like this: She arrived on earth 900 years ago. She is essentially immortal. I don't think he is human, he mostly came from outside the earth. I think he was part of a civilization that existed on another planet or probably the moon. That civilization fell to it's doom and he came to the Earth. As he came, he brought the devil fruits with him. Alternatively, he might have the power to create and destroy devil fruits. This means devil fruit powers either won't work on him or he is too strong and arrogant and simply thinks that he can't be defeated. Around the same time, the Ancient Kingdom (AK) was thriving under the guidance of leaders from the Clan of D. They were feared and admired all over the world owing to their superiority in terms of technology, power and overall governance.

They had created a perfect, peaceful and prosperous country, where everyone is free and happy, which I believe is the will of D - To make the world free of hatred and oppression. They also built weapons of mass destruction, or were in the process of building them, as a safeguard against anyone who threatened their country. Imu saw this as an opportunity to unite the world. She manipulated rest of the world leaders into declaring a war against the AK by telling them they are dangerous. The clan of D was defeated. And the world government was formed. This justifies the government's ideology of killing the few, to protect the many. However, the alliance under Imu suffered some losses too. The devil fruits that till then only he had control over, were scattered across the world. The AK also created the Poneglyphs for their successors to decipher and get revenge on the World Government in future. However researching the Poneglyphs was banned. In all of this, the Straw Hat has another role to play. Maybe the leader of the AK at that time used to wear the Straw hat shown. It is a symbol that the world government keeps to remind themselves that whoever dares to challenge them, will face certain death, no matter how strong. However, the Straw Hat Luffy wears is different and it reminds the Gorosei and Imu that there are still some people fighting to protect the will of D. We all know in One Piece, it’s never so simple, but this is my theory right now. Let me know what you think.
