The Most Dangerous Game Trailer Teases A Thrilling New Remake

A trailer dropped for the new thriller The Most Dangerous Game. It is a remake of the classic film of the same name from 1932.

The Most Dangerous Game was first announced last November and will be co-produced by prominent home video label Mill Creek Entertainment. The company is known as a DVD distributor that in recent years signed major distributing deals with Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures, and this will be its first time co-producing an original feature film.

The new trailer for The Most Dangerous Game shows a father and son shipwrecked on a mysterious island. The island, as it turns out, is owned by a Baron with a passion for big game hunting who allows the family to live with him temporarily. However, they soon discover that the Baron is especially obsessed with hunting what he calls the most dangerous game: humans.

The cast includes Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club, Empire), Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Tom Berenger (Platoon), Oscar-nominated Bruce Dern (Nebraska, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), and Chris Tamburello (MTV’s The Challenge). The role of director is filled by Justin Lee, who recently completed Final Kill (2020), an action thriller starring Danny Trejo. Lee also penned the screenplay based on the original source material, a 1924 short story by Richard Connell.

Mill Creek's production will be a remake of the 1932 film produced by Ernest B. Schoedsack and Merian C. Cooper, the year before the team was to direct King Kong. The original short story itself entered the public domain in the U.S. in 2020, though it has been adapted multiple times before and the concept of man hunting man has been explored in several unrelated projects, both on the big screen and on television.

Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures recently tried their own hand at an adaptation of Connell’s story with 2020's The Hunt. Their version added a satirical spin, but the overtly political nature of the movie was controversial, and it ultimately received largely negative reviews. Mill Creek's The Most Dangerous Game, however, appears to be a more literal adaptation of the classic story, based on what this short trailer reveals.

Dead End: Paranormal Park Creator On Why Courtney's Pronouns Changed

Creator Hamish Steele shares why Courtney's pronouns have changed from the original comic in the Dead End: Paranormal Park animated series. Based on Steele’s DeadEndia comic, this cartoon adaptation was recently released on Netflix and has gained new traction on social media. Dead End tells the story of two teenagers, Barney Guttman (Spider-Man: Far From Home’s Zach Barack) and Norma Khan (Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Kody Kavitha), as they undertake their new jobs at a haunted theme park. As they work to uncover the secrets of the park, the pair are joined by the demonic Courtney, voiced by Hannah Montana's Emily Osment, and Barney’s partially possessed dog Pugsley (Alex Brightman, known for Beetlejuice on Broadway).

The Netflix animation does make some notable changes from Steele’s original graphic novel. In the comic, Norma and Barney befriend each other while working as janitors at Phoenix Park, whereas the Netflix series has them as security guards (who aren’t very good at their jobs). Other changes saw the 912-year-old demon Courtney shift from using they/them to she/her pronouns for the show.

Now, Steele reveals on his Twitter what decisions went into making this change to Dead End: Paranormal Park. Netflix is aware of the non-human non-binary trope, and producers encouraged gender-blind casting for Courtney, with a plan for Courtney to use the same pronouns as the actor cast. While Steele assured fans that Osment was the best fit for the role, he is also understanding that the change may have been disappointing to those hoping to see themselves represented. 

While non-binary characters have started to see more inclusion in on-screen media, these roles are still far and few between. When looking at non-binary representation in television, a plethora of these characters fall into the ‘non-human’ category, with many justifying their identity with the idea that these characters just don’t understand human concepts of gender. This way of interpreting non-binary characters can be detrimental, but it doesn’t inherently make the representation bad, with characters like Good Omens' Aziraphale and Crowley being widely adored. Although, it certainly becomes tiresome if this is the only way non-binary people see themselves represented on screen.

Dead End has a diverse cast, creating characters with different backgrounds, identities, and body types. It focuses on Barney, a trans man who finds home in the haunted theme park when he doesn’t feel at home with his parents anymore. Dead End puts a large focus on LGBTQ+ identities, while also exploring disability and neurodivergence with autistic characters like Norma. While fans might, understandably, still be saddened by Courtney’s change of pronouns, the team behind Dead End: Paranormal Park chose to consider the overall impact that their creative decisions would have to avoid further use of an often upsetting trope.

Below Deck Down Under Fans Debate If Culver & Brittini Will Take Van Trip

Below Deck Down Under season 1 has quickly become a fan favorite in the Below Deck franchise thanks to the supportive and charming Captain Jason Chambers, the youngest captain in the franchise, and the genuinely nice people that make up the crew of the Australian-based show. With the final episode coming out on June 23, many fans are starting to think about the crew's future after the show, especially deckhands Brittini Burton and Culver Bradbury.

Since joining BDDU, deckhand Brittini has become a fan favorite due to her kind personality, humor, and drive. She quickly befriended most of the crew on the yacht, including fellow deckhand Culver. Their similar sense of humor and personality made them fast friends, leading Brittini to suggest that the two of them take a van trip after the charter season ends. However, as the charter season went on, the rest of the BDDU crew noticed Brittini's and Culver's close relationship and started to push them to hook up, leading Brittini to develop feelings for Culver. After multiple times of Brittini pressing for a romantic relationship and Culver not reciprocating, their friendship started to sour, and the reality of their van trip was thrown into question.

Brittini seems oblivious to the future of her van trip with Culver and is still making rental preparations for an RV. However, fans don't think the van trip will actually happen The majority of responses to Reddit user FormicaDinette33's poll on the topic were "No," with most commenters deciding it was obvious that Culver was going to drop out of the trip; however, Brittini would likely still use her rented RV. "I can already see him flaking out in slow motion. She'll go though because she's awesome like that," u/Dial-M-for-Mediocre commented.

Fans have also speculated why Below Deck Down Under's Culver hasn't reciprocated Brittini's romantic advances. Some have suggested he might be into chief stew Aesha Scott, but Aesha's current relationship makes this seem very unlikely. Others have pointed out Culver might've not noticed Brittini's flirting. Regardless, this doesn't seem likely, as Brittini's pursuit of Culver was less than subtle. Culver also initially flirted back as it seemed like he was attracted to Brittini. While he agreed to go on the RV trip and seemed excited about it, as the date got closer, he started to get cold feet. "I think in the moment he got excited talking about it, but now that the season is coming to a close and Brittini is actually planning it, he's realizing he may not be into it as much as he anticipated," Reddit user MyGutReaction suggested.

Whether or not that is the case, it seems Brittini's and Culver's van trip is dead in the water. While BDDU season 1 was filmed last summer, there are no signs on Brittini's Instagram that the trip occurred before the show started to stream on Peacock in March 2022. Hopefully, the finale or the reunion special of Below Deck Down Under season 1 can give some closure to Brittini's and Culver's relationship.

Why Palpatine Looked So Weird In Obi-Wan Kenobi

Sith Lord Palpatine appears in Star Wars’ Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6, but he looks very different from his previous appearances. The series is set approximately 10 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, when Palpatine executed Order 66, bringing the Empire to power and forcing the few surviving Jedi into hiding. Yet, in this period, Palpatine seems to have changed dramatically from his prequel-era look

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, after learning that Senator Organa’s daughter Leia was kidnapped, Jedi Master Obi-Wan hesitantly embarks on a journey to rescue her. He succeeds, only after embracing the Force he had become estranged from, and defeating his former Padawan Darth Vader. The series finale features cameos from renowned light side and dark side characters. This includes a heart-warming reunion between Obi-Wan and the Force ghost of his Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, reprised by Liam Neeson in his first Star Wars appearance in 23 years. But perhaps the most notable cameo comes earlier in the episode, Darth Vadar returns to Mustafar after losing to Obi-Wan in battle, where he faces a hologram version of his own Master Darth Sidious (Palpatine), played by Ian McDiarmid in his sixth Star Wars live-action appearance.

Both cameos help tie the series to previous Star Wars projects, and as it takes place between the prequel and original trilogies, it makes sense that the surviving Palpatine would appear. However, his face differs substantially from other projects. He is older and more deformed by the dark side than in the prequels but is more human than the resurrected version of Palpatine seen in the sequels. Palpatine's face looks weird in Obi-Wan Kenobi due to appearing at a point in the timeline that we have not seen him in before. As a result, it's understandable that he would have a "new", surprising look.

In Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine is seemingly disfigured in battle when his Force lightning is deflected back towards him by Jedi Mace Windu. However, there is a theory from the Legends comics, where Palpatine uses Sith alchemy to conceal his true face behind a mask, which the Force lightning breaks, rather than causing disfigurement. This is reinforced in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, when Luke Skywalker is physically unaltered by Palpatine’s Force lightning. Also, the dark Force can physically change its users, as evidenced by Anakin Skywalker’s eyes turning yellow – like Palpatine’s – after his first kills influenced by the dark side. Palpatine’s changed appearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi likely reflects 10 years of aging and further deformity from continued use of the dark side of the Force. Contrastingly, Palpatine’s visage in the sequels is radically different, as he is a partially-resurrected version of himself, housing his consciousness in a cloned body. This body could not contain him and rapidly decayed, leaving him with yet another drastically different look from what viewers see in the series finale.

Though he may look weird, Palpatine’s cameo in Obi-Wan Kenobi makes sense for the character at that time and acts as a key indicator of the show’s place along the Star Wars timeline, second only to beloved characters Leia and Luke appearing as children. His appearance, paired with that of Qui-Gon Jinn, signals that no cameo is off the table in this new age of Disney+ Star Wars content. With Qui-Gon Jinn telling Kenobi “We’ve got a ways to go” before the show concludes, it seems there is potential for either a second season or more cameos from these legendary characters in future Star Wars projects.
