Cyberpunk aesthetics have been on the rise recently and have inspired some terrific anime, one of them being Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
It is set in a fictitious future town called Night City, where people are obsessed with glamor, technology, and body modifications. The citizens here may look like robots but are, in fact, humans with various pieces of tech etched into them.
As expected, in such a city plagued by a materialistic mindset, crimes ought to happen more often. Amid all this madness comes a street kid who becomes an edgerunner and changes everything.
Studio Trigger and Netflix’s upcoming anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners have revealed a new teaser for the show’s September 2022 premiere.
The teaser gives us a glimpse of a dystopian world filled with tall buildings and glimmering lights that hide the city’s darkest secrets. As various characters are teased along with the protagonist, the video takes a drastic and horrific turn.
Things start blowing up, and there’s a lot of shooting and combat with people bursting into pools of blood. It ends with the anime’s title flashing on the screen and sirens of police cars and ambulances in the background.
To get fans even more pumped up for the premiere, Netflix has revealed an exclusive clip from the show featuring a thrilling shootout between two gangs.
Since edgerunners are mercenary outlaws, also known as cyberpunks, the clip shows us how they get things done.
The premise looks like a deal between two groups or gangs, and the trade in question is a girl with a technically modified body.
Soon the edgerunners break into the room and save the girl from it while annihilating one of the gangs. It is revealed that one of the groups was in cahoots with the edgerunners and had planned it all.
Cyberpunk 2077 became the game of the year that people had been desperately waiting for. Tailing on the game’s success, the franchise decided to drop an anime based in the same setting for fans.
Previously, I highly doubted if the anime could top the game, but after looking at the teasers, I’m pretty sure this show will be spectacular.
