Jaffe made the comments on Twitter, saying that someone within Sony has informed him that the God of War sequel’s release date was “no longer locked in.” This follows a previous report that Sony was still aiming for a 2022 release date for the game. Member thst Sony insider pal who said GOW:R 2022 was still on? Well ANOTHER Sony insider pal texted me today saying it’s no longer locked in and the release is tbd. Maybe 2022; maybe not.
Ragnarok was surprisingly absent from last week’s Summer Game Fest 2022 event, leading to further speculation that its release date has been pushed back. Despite major upcoming Sony releases such as The Last of Us Part 1 being showcased during the show, Santa Monica Studio’s sequel was nowhere to be seen. However, some information has slipped through suggesting we’ll see more from the game sooner rather than later. For one, it received an official rating in Korea, which typically means that a release date announcement is imminent. Secondly, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that while its launch date may slip, it is currently still penciled in for November 2022. Still, Jaffe could well know something that others don’t. As the creator of the God of War franchise, he potentially has additional information from within Sony pertaining to the sequel’s release date, even though he isn’t involved with its development. Fans have speculated that Sony may have withheld Ragnarok from Summer Game Fest in order to make it the focus of the company’s own State of Play event. However, Sony has yet to reveal when its next presentation will be, so for the time being we’ll just have to wait and see.
